Dresden
From February 13 to February 15, 1945, the United States Air Force and Royal Air Force bombed Dresden. 1,249 aircrafts dropped over 3,900 tons of bombs onto the city. The bombings destroyed about 6.5 square kilometers of Dresden, leveling most the city. The bombings also resulted in the deaths of about 35,000 to 135,000 civilians. It remains a highly controversial bombing as Dresden was not important to German wartime production and was not a industrial center.
