Hiroshima
On August 6, 1945, Enola Gay, an American B-29, dropped Little Boy onto Hiroshima, Japan. Little Boy was a uranium gun-type atomic bomb. The bomb exploded 2,000 feet above Hiroshima, destroyed the city, and immediately killed about 90,000 people (and 140,000 within months), including civilians. The city was chosen as a target because of its industrial and military importance. It contained stockpiles of supplies for the Imperial Army. However, the city was also home to thousands of civilians.
