A series of firebombings were led on Hamburg from the United States Air Force and the Royal Air Force. Hamburg was a large port and an industrial center, making it a target during the war. The bombings lasted eight days and seven nights. 3,000 aircrafts dropped 9,000 tons of bombs onto the city.
