Osaka
Three raids took place on Osaka. Osaka was the second largest city in Japan with over 3 million resident. It also the industrial center that aided the war effort in the East. It was known for shipbuilding, electrical equipment, and special steels and metals, making it a target during the war. During the first raid, on March 13, 1945, 274 B-29 heavy bombers dropped 1,733 tons of bombs onto the city. This raid killed 3,987 civilians and 678 people went missing. During the third raid, on August 14, 1945, about 150 B-29s dropped 700 tons of bombs onto city and more specifically, Kyobashi Station. This attack killed 210 civilians and left 500 unidentified. The three raids in total killed approximately 10,000 civilians.
